Building mise-en-scene

Costumes and props 

Keeping a fine balance between all elements of mise en scene, we did a little planning on our character's costume too.Our character represents all elements of nature, water, earth, air and fire; Thus we believed color psychology would in some way help us convey our message too. Therefore, we didn't choose a fancy attire, but rather a mixture of all shades of the elements in raw form displayed through her clothing. We have used Aurora herself in Runaway as an inspiration. We have somewhat followed her conventions along with 'Colors by Halsey'. Both artists have used colors like blue and grey which adds a gloomy effect, tinge of red to emphasis a fiery effect and faded white to display the innocence, that we plan to create. However, taking their videos into consideration while planning ours,

A2: Research and Planning

My group and i have been working on our final project regarding the promotional package.

We reviewed a couple of video shots which inspired us to recreate a similar shot or something in a similar style. 
 Each image displayed impacts emotional encounter, five human senses and nature orientation.

 

 Shots that have inspired us to follow conventions regarding the music video. Aurora's official music videos are our major inspirations and her song "Runaway" is our selection for the promotional video.

Research and Planning beginning.

The beginning of Advanced Portfolio

Time was running short, and there were constant reminders of the upcoming deadlines, it seemed sensible enough to  initiation of our Advanced Portfolio and put our idea into action. After a long discussion with my group,we came to a conclusion of choosing Runaway by Aurora, a vocal but emotional song. Originally the idea of our video was to illustrate a framework of four different seasons; we believed that the constant shift in the setting will intrigue the audience. Our strategy also includes a flight to our heroine's memory; there will be a switch between past and present, as well as illusions. To pull it off, we will soon, be beginning our research and plan phase started.

After Effects learning Project

In this project, we were guided by our teacher, in which we had to create a dual/ replication of our character talking to himself. It was a very interesting project, along with which we learnt many new techniques to create a clone and to demonstrate how we did so using Adobe After Effects CS6

Just playing around with the speed duration and to create maximum impact of Autumn finally coming after the longest of summers. 

Another Individual Project,

Testing lighting skills along with slow motion speeds and increasing of frames. 

Individual Project; 

We were told by our teacher to capture or play around with backlighting. It didnt have to be on a professional level, we just had to prove our understanding of lighting and it's importance in effect to the video and our photography.

I believe that this clears out a lot of defaults and problems that occur during our project, whether we are shooting or we are taking pictures.

Whole Class Projection:

As a whole class, we all volunteered to work and capture the freezing of images by increasing the Frame rate/second. We played around with the Fps, shutter speed and ISO. Our aim was to capture the smoothness and the crispness of one image in 24 or 60 frames/ second. We also wanted to test out a couple of new plug-ins and tried to make it seem very professional looking. It was a lot of fun and every experiment we did, made us get better in the practical. Our professor helped us through with this and made sure everyone participated equally. I volunteered to make the video, editing and placing, shifting and background as well as the actors were the rest of my class.

Media A2 project:

My group and I were given a project regarding music and syncing. We had to plan, sketch, create and edit within 45-50 minutes. The music video was to initiate our final Cambridge project;  to guide us through and help us understand how to create the ambiance and how to sync the words and the singer if recorded separately. Not only that; but also how to bring the perfect effect of the song and dedicate a story to it and represent it.

 Our design and construct was original. we came up with the story line through the description of the song.

Salutations, 

My name is Humda Qamar and I am a student of Media Studies A2, batch of 2016-2017. I will most definitely take up Media Studies as a part of my major for my Bachelors and Masters degree; I've come to learn so much about my society and how media has a tremendously significant impact on it.

My learning from basic editing techniques and small scale photography, has now morphed into professional levels of understanding the practical element in media. However, i have a strong belief that the theoretical part of the subject has an equal amount of importance in our society, making it complicated, much like other subjects.

Many of my friends and family members think that media studies is a "piece of cake" kind of a subject, but only the ones who pass through the constant sleepless nights editing videos and pictures, creating the ambiance and mise-en-scen of the media product, remaking videos, developing an idea that is eye catching, constructing and deconstructing ideas for the audience to approach is way more intricate and challenging then an Algebraic equation in a math pop quiz.
